A play, a cat, and surgery...

I tried out for a part in our church's

production of Joseph on September 9th.

I was cast in the lead role of Joseph

the following day!

Our program is October 26-28.

Friday and Saturday the play begins

at 8:00; Sunday the matinee starts at 3:00.

COME AND SEE IT!!!

Yes, you know me well enough

to know it's been too long since

I shared photos of my sweet

apartment companion Maria.

Below, she found a warm load

of towels fresh from the dryer

too tempting to pass up...

I held my hand out to see if she

were up to some petting...

She consented...







Tonight I was straightening my
junk drawer. It's heavy and has
thousands of tiny items so I removed
it from its position in the bureau.

When I started to replace it,
I noticed a certain kitty had
found my winter sweaters another
pleasant nesting spot...

On the same day I was told I had

the part of Joseph in the play,

I found out I will be having a

tonsillectomy on the day before

Thanksgiving this year.

The Beach

Yesterday my friend Tim
and I went to The Beach
Waterpark near Cincinnati.

We spent about 7 1/2

hours in the water and

faced death every quarter

hour we were there. :)

Columbus Zoo 1

This is a four-part blog about my trip

to the Columbus Zoo two weeks ago.

A word of explanation first...

Since I took so many photos,

I was concerned the blog would

not hold all of the information;

hence, I created these four

entries to spread out the shots.

The last entries were actually

uploaded first so there may

be weird chronology issues

as you read through the entries.

I volunteered to work at the

Teddy Bear Safari for Children's

Hospital. TBS is a non-threatening way

to teach children about the hospital

and all of our various procedures.

It's non-threatening because

we perform the various checkups

on their stuffed animals.

Here is my tent for the first part of the morning...

After I finished my shift,

I went inside our area

to make a few shots.

Outside, a juggler entertains
the kids. I caught this photo
as the little girl was throwing
the juggler another ball...



Usually, this vehicle has is
an ominous sight.
Today it was taking a
break from hauling
sick kiddos...



As I mentioned in a later blog,
I am not impressed with Columbus
Zoo's landscaping.
That said, I am much more
impressed with the animals
(including number of animals
and wellbeing of the animals)
and their habitats than anywhere
I've ever been--including San Diego.

I liked the mirror behind the

flamingos' nests. It was tilted

so we could see if there were

eggs or hatchlings in the

mud nests.

Next up, alligators...or crocodiles...

whatever!

I found this scientific fact amazing!

Okay, I admit it: I went crazy

in the herpatorium.

So many amazing creatures...

Yep, it's two...

Isn't he adorable?!?

This guy/girl is called a

snake-necked turtle.

Wonder why?

Columbus Zoo 2

NOTE: This is a continuation of my

visit to the Columbus Zoo on August 18.

I had taken a photo of a brilliantly blue

frog earlier, but the shot came out poorly.

This yellow one looks pretty good...

Another snake...or two...


Not the largest snake at the zoo,
but definitely the second largest...


I enjoy taking photos through water.
It has a split screen effect...


This is a famous albino alligator.


More snakes...Gotta respect 'em!

I think this is a barn snake.

In Mississippi, he would have been

called a dead snake

although I think he's nonpoisonous.

A lizard of some sort...

Can't fail to spot this one!

As always, I have no clue about birds.

This guy is so fashionable right now.

He would be like a chameleon

at Pier One!

I can hear this bird's thoughts:

"Woo-wee! Those are some

weird looking humans

inside that cage!"

One of few shots of the landscaping...

I was not impressed with the flowers

at the zoo. The vegetation as a whole

was nice, but Memphis Zoo

definitely has better overall landscaping.
